| Windows™ can be a difficult
beast. If you are new to computers, the learning curve is
so much steeper. Even hardened users are frequently unaware
of the simplest of keystrokes that could save them hours in
the long run. How do you use the machine if your mouse is
broken? How do you take a screenshot to email to a friend
(or a helpdesk)? Where do you change the settings for the
display? The screensaver? Easy when you know how, but nobody
knows until they have been shown and we all have to start
somewhere. Look at these examples...
Scenario 1:
You went and bought the kids a computer, got it home and
set it up after an hour with the manuals and several cups
of coffee. Now you want to learn to use it, so they will stop
laughing at you. Kids are that cruel. You know it.
Scenario 2:
The kids school homework has to be printed out. You can spend
every night sat over them while they do it. If you leave them
to it and give them unrestricted access, they may see/delete/overwrite
your email (Kids being inquisitive by nature). Or that letter
to the bank manager. Or worse, crash the system and you could
lose everything. Perhaps a little basic training would be
helpful for all the family?
Scenario 3:
Your job requires you to work with the damn things, but you
don't like them and you never will. Common sense should tell
you that the more you know, the faster you can finish the
work and get away from the horrible thing and back to something
enjoyable. Two famous quotes for you:-
"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer"
"Better the devil you know"
Scenario 4:
You have family overseas and want to learn how to use email
and video messaging to speak to them. You want to know who
Amazon are or how to buy / sell on Ebay but are worried you
may break something or damage the computer somehow.
A lot of people are scared to touch a computer, literally.
The best way to conquer any fear is to face it, and computers
are a lot less scary than snakes or rottweilers. When dealing
with computers it tends to be more a fear of the unknown.
So, make it known. Lose the fear and open up your life a little. |
